Overview
Incorporating sound into our AI products is a strategic approach to enhance user interaction and engagement. Sound design plays a critical role in creating a more intuitive, accessible, and emotionally resonant user experience. It offers numerous advantages, such as providing immediate feedback, guiding users through complex tasks, and offering alternative cues for those with visual impairments. Additionally, sound can evoke emotions, reinforce our brand identity, and create a more memorable and satisfying user experience.
Our brand is built on our values of Human, Simplify, Trust, Bold. The sounds we incorporate must reflect these values, supporting our commitment to delivering high-quality, user-centric solutions. By following the guidelines outlined in this documentation, we aim to create a cohesive and effective sonic experience that complements our visual design and enhances overall product functionality. This introduction sets the stage for understanding the importance of sound in our AI products and provides a framework for its successful integration.
| Considerations |
|---|
| Intended use onlyThe sounds provided here are intended to be used strictly within the interaction context of Sage Copilot.Do not use these sounds in any other context or application.Ongoing updatesNot all features may have been implemented within Sage Copilot yet. This page will be updated with new examples as they become available.User preferencesEnsure users can deactivate sounds if desired. Not all users have access to speakers or headphones, so sound should not be the only method of conveying critical information. Always provide visual or tactile alternatives for accessibility. |
The Sage sonic system
Like the rest of our Design System, the Sage sounds are strategically crafted to ensure brand consistency and to communicate emotively. The entire sound palette is derived from a foundational DNA track (currently work in progress), ensuring cohesion and recognition across all sound elements. When listening to the Copilot badge sound and various product sounds, users will notice similarities as the elements are extracted from the same sonic ecosystem, reinforcing a unified auditory identity.
This approach creates a holistic experience that embodies our values (shown below), and fosters a secure environment for our users.
The sound system is designed to engage our prospects, customers, and users, guiding them on a trusted journey with Sage AI. By embedding these sonic elements, we enhance user interactions and build a deeper emotional connection with our brand.
Sage Copilot badge sound
Hero branded moment
The Copilot badge is our hero product sound for the Copilot experience. This is the first sound users will hear when opening Copilot, playing alongside the animated Copilot logo. It therefore represents a key branded moment, communicating our brand values and instilling our design principles.
Usage
This sound is to be used only when launching Copilot (across any device), as well as in some cases of Copilot-related marketing communications. Implementation of the Copilot badge sound in marketing comms should be agreed on with the Brand team on a case-by-case basis.
Relation to our AI principles
Natural Language and Tone of Voice
The Copilot badge sound sets the stage for a conversational and user-friendly interaction by showcasing warm textures and a positive major key, aligning with our principle of using natural language and a consistent tone of voice.
Privacy and Security
The refined sound design, precise notes, and reassuring resolve suggest a sense of trust - instilling customer confidence in Sage's adherence to privacy and data security policies.
Product sounds
| CapturedConfirmation / Feedback | UsageThis sound is to be used exclusively when a voice message is successfully captured, indicating it has been recorded immediately after the end of the user's message.Relation to our AI principlesHighlighting UncertaintiesBy immediately confirming the capture of the voice message, the sound reduces any uncertainty the user might have about whether their input was successfully recorded. |
|---|
| ProcessingConfirmation / Feedback | UsageThis sound is to be used exclusively when Copilot is processing information just after the user has captured a voice message or sent a special request requiring some time to execute for Copilot.LoopingThe loop should start 2.5 seconds after the previous sound ends. If the processing finishes while a loop sound is playing, the sound should not be abruptly cut off. Instead, it should gradually fade out over 0.5 seconds.Relation to our AI principlesHighlighting Uncertainties and TransparencyThe processing sound informs users that their request is being handled, which aligns with our principle of transparency about system activities and uncertainties. It helps manage user expectations by clearly indicating that processing is underway.Humble and HumanBy signaling that Copilot is working on the task, this sound reflects the system’s humility, showing that it is actively processing and will provide results as soon as possible, keeping users informed throughout the process. |
| Push notificationNotification / Alert | UsageThis sound is to be used exclusively for notifications or insights from Copilot when the app is minimized and not in use, indicating that Copilot has finished a task or has a proposal.Relation to our AI principlesSeamless Integration with User WorkflowsThe push notification sound ensures that users receive important updates without disrupting their current activities. This aligns with our principle of integrating seamlessly into the user’s workflow.Proactive Highlighting of ResultsBy notifying users of task completion or new insights, the sound aligns with our principle of proactively highlighting important results and keeping users informed, even when they are not actively using the app. |
| Reply notificationNotification / Alert | UsageThis sound is to be used exclusively for notifications from Copilot, indicating it has a reply that requires the user's attention while they already have Copilot active.Relation to our AI principlesHumble and HumanThe reply notification sound encourages user interaction by signaling that Copilot has a response requiring their attention. This reflects the principle of being humble and engaging, allowing users to stay in control of the conversation.Natural Language and Tone of VoiceBy providing a timely auditory cue, this sound supports the principle of maintaining a natural and conversational interaction, enhancing the user experience. |
| ‘Special’ notificationNotification / Alert | UsageThis sound is to be used exclusively for special notifications from Copilot, indicating a reply that delivers something of particular value, such as a table of data or a key statistic. It signifies a conclusion rather than a continuation of the conversation.Relation to our AI principlesProactive Highlighting of ResultsThis sound signifies the delivery of important information, reinforcing our principle of proactively highlighting valuable results to ensure users receive and recognize significant data or conclusions provided by Copilot. |
