Mobile certification
At the start of the mobile app design process, contact the Mobile Certification Team for resources and guidance.
Mobile app icons
- Use the product icon as the mobile app icon where possible. If your product has more than 1 app, you need a different icon for each.
- Create a simple icon that represents a single concept. Make sure it's easy to recognize on a small screen full of other icons. Filled shapes work best.
- Get the icon approved by our legal team.
- Contact the Mobile Assets Team for help.
Mobile app images
- Create the device frame using the illustration guidelines.
- You can change the frame color, image, and text composition to enhance the UI.
- Limit text in images to 3 or 4 words that immediately explain the benefits of using the app.
Mobile app descriptions
Each store has different app description requirements.
- Apple App Store condenses your app description into 3 lines that are roughly 255 characters long. A More button lets users expand the rest of the description. You can add user testimonials. See Optimizing Your Product Page.
- Google Play Store gives space for a long app description. You cannot include user testimonials. See Get discovered on Google Play search.
How to write a great app description
- Present the user problem and your solution.
- Define the keywords and key phrases that a user can search for. Do keyword research and identify at least 5 top keywords to include. Include long-tail keywords.
- Show off your awards, reviews, and app features.
Mobile app videos
- Mobile app videos are optional.
- Use captured footage of your app to show off the features, functionality, and user interface.
- Add the footage to a simple mockup to optimize the video quality.
- Include motion graphics and audio only if you have the available resources to handle a large audio-visual production.
- Use the illustration guidelines to create a video thumbnail.
How to write a great script
- Keep it short.
- Start your video strong.
- Show only the main features of the app.
- Make sure your video makes sense with no sound.
- Optimize your poster frame.
- Look at the competition.
