Description

The Copilot panel is the visual display of Copilot which allows the user to access a set of AI-powered features based on their current in-product context_._

In its default chat mode, users can interact with Copilot in 2 ways (depending on their context):

Prompted conversations
Text conversations

Warning

When certain content requires more space than that available in chat mode, it will display in canvas mode. See guidance in the Canvas tab

User feedback

Use the following non-interruptive feedback pattern for all insights and response bubbles:

Inline buttons for quick feedback

Feedback dialog for more in depth feedback

1. Inline feedback buttons

Each bubble includes a pair of thumbs up/down buttons below it. If the user selects either one, the buttons are replaced by an acknowledgement message and a Tell us more button.
Each bubble's feedback state is fully independent. Rating one response does not affect any other.
The feedback state only persists as long as the Copilot panel is open. If the user closes and reopens the panel, the feedback pattern resets to the default state (thumbs up/down buttons).

2. Feedback dialog

If the user chooses to select the Tell us more button, a dialog appears that presents a structured feedback form. The form has 2 different versions depending on whether the user previously selected thumbs up or thumbs down.
Once the user completes and submits the form, it's replaced by another dialog that acknowledges the submission and suggests that the user join the Product Feedback Panel (includes a link).
Both the positive and negative versions of the feedback form are standard and should not be customized. This ensures that user feedback is gathered in a consistent way across different products.

Privacy notice

The legal disclaimer in the panel footer contains a link to Sage's privacy notice on sage dot com. This allows users to make themselves aware of how Sage processes their data.

Description

There are currently 2 conversation types for user interaction within the Copilot chat: Prompted and Text.

Both are contextual to the user's specific workflow and cannot be used for general requests.

Canvas mode allows the user to view and interact with AI-generated content that requires more space than that provided by the Copilot chat.

Content can include automatically generated graphs and tables that help the user visualise data, review insights, and understand results at a glance.

The canvas is designed to maintain a clear relationship with the Copilot chat across different screen sizes.

The Copilot chat remains fixed on the right at a width of 480px.
The canvas opens to the left and flexes based on the available space.

At a particular breakpoint (determined during the testing phase) the layout changes from a dual‑mode to a single‑mode display. When this change happens:

Either the canvas or the Copilot chat is displayed, optimising usability on smaller screens.
A button is displayed at the top of the canvas, allowing the user to navigate back to the chat.
Additional padding around the canvas is removed to maximise the usable space.

Currently, the Canvas pattern only supports instance swapping for a limited set of components:

More components will be supported in the future as the pattern evolves.
