Here are some answers to frequently asked questions about the Fusion Design System.

What is the Fusion Design System?

The Fusion Design System is technology-agnostic. It has implementations in Figma and Carbon, but it's more than that. It's the how and the why of creating consistent, accessible features that support user needs and uphold Sage's strategic ambitions.

Design tokens and accessible patterns create a shared language between design and development, increasing efficiency and speeding up delivery.

By unifying design, engineering, accessibility, and AI‑powered intelligence into one coherent ecosystem, Fusion is the engine that powers our product experience.

Who should use the Fusion Design System?

Everyone.

Regardless of the technology your product uses, Fusion documentation is the most up to date resource for guidance on accessibility, content, and consistent user experience design.

  • Design tokens keep your product on brand with minimal maintenance.
  • Approved patterns ensure consistent user experiences across platforms.
  • Pre-built components accelerate workflows and simplify handovers.
  • AI-specific elements equip teams to innovate within a strategic framework.

Fusion has been created to empower you to deliver Sage's strategic goals: AI, mobile, and the suite vision.

What if I’m designing for a Carbon-based product?

The Carbon team is currently rebuilding and modernising their component library, aligning it with Fusion to offer product teams a powerful and consistent connection between design and code.

To plan your work with confidence, refer to the current Carbon alignment status in our Fusion roadmap. This will help you to understand what’s ready, what’s in progress, and what’s coming next.

New features

If you're designing a new feature that will not be in development for some time, start using the Fusion Design System now to minimise rework that will be required later.

Existing features

If you're updating an existing feature required for upcoming releases, continue to use the Frozen Design System. These libraries provide the safest foundation for ongoing work, and will minimise conflicts with development while Carbon builds alignment with Fusion.
